Simple Telescope Markup Language

This is an attempt to create a simple XML format to provide professional and amateur telescope observations in a form that is useful for simple web applications.

This format aims to stay simple for both creators of the files and for those who wish to do something with them. There already exist several excellent - but complicated - XML formats for telescopes within the Virtual Observatory but these are aimed at remotely controlling telescopes, allowing networks of telescopes to talk to each other or allowing telescopes to respond to events. STML is designed to answer the rather simple question "What is it looking at?". To answer the question, STML provides basic pointing information along with some other useful information about the telescope such as its location, a description and an image.

The current positions of the telescopes are also available in a Google Sky version.
